Iran-Russia Ties Bring Peace to Region: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi lauded the friendly relations between Tehran and Moscow, and called for closer Iran-Russia regional cooperation.

Tehran attaches great significance to its relations with Moscow, Vaezi said on Wednesday, stressing that five meetings between the two countries’ presidents in less than two years indicate the good level of ties between Iran and Russia.

He made the remarks as the head of Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission in a meeting with the visiting Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak here in Tehran.

Close cooperation between Iran and Russia helps develop more peace for the people of the region, the Iranian minister stated, calling for continued regional consultations between the two countries.

He further hailed the existing capacities for reinforced economic and commercial collaborations between Tehran and Moscow, saying the bilateral trade value should surpass $1 billion.

The Russian minister arrived in Iran earlier in the day at the head of a delegation including the CEOs of severak giant Russian oil and gas companies including Gazprom, Rosgeologia, Russneft, Gazprom Neft, Zarubezhneft, Stroytransgaz, and Bashneft.
