Suicide Attacks in Nigeria Draw Iran’s Condemnation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman condemned deadly suicide bomb attacks on two mosques in northeast Nigeria that killed at least 55 worshippers on Friday.

Marziyeh Afkham on Saturday expressed Iran’s sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims as well as the Nigerian government and nation.

Highlighting the need for concerted action against extremism, the spokeswoman also voiced Iran’s readiness to share its experience with Nigeria in the fight on terrorism.

At least 55 people were killed and around 100 others were wounded in suicide bombings that struck two mosques in different cities in northeast Nigeria.

A massive blast in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, killed 27 people and wounded about 96 others during a Friday afternoon prayer.

Earlier in the day, another suicide bomber had killed 28 people in an explosion at a mosque in the city of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state and the birthplace of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but they appear to have been carried out by the Boko Haram terrorists, who have launched a large number of suicide attacks in the African country over the past few months.
