Iran’s Energy Minister: Arrival of Electric Vehicles Inevitable

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian underlined that the advent of electric vehicles in the country is “inevitable” and that the electric power industry should be prepared to supply their electricity.

The Energy ministry is planning to provide special supports for Iranian knowledge-based companies, particularly those active in the field of electric cars, the energy minister told the Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday.

“In the not too distant future, the advent of electric vehicles (in Iran) will be inevitable and the country’s power industry should get prepared to build charging stations for the vehicles and supply their electricity,” he noted.

An electric vehicle (EV), also referred to as an electric drive vehicle, uses one or more electric motors or traction motors for propulsion.

An electric vehicle may be powered through a collector system by electricity from off-vehicle sources, or may be self-contained with a battery or generator to convert fuel to electricity

Electric vehicles are expected to be received well in Iran given that air pollution is a major problem of the country’s major cities because of fuel-guzzling cars which ply the streets.
