Syrian Forces Advance in Terrorist-Held Areas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian army forces backed by volunteer forces and Russian airstrikes killed dozens of terrorists in various regions of the war-stricken country, including the suburbs of Aleppo, Hama and Idlib, local media reports said.

Syrian Army units, in cooperation with volunteer forces, took control over Tal Mamo hill and the two villages of Birawi and Azizit Samaan in the southern countryside of Aleppo province, after eliminating the last remnants of terrorists, a military source told the Syrian Arab New Agency.

The source said the army troops managed to liberate many areas on the outskirts of Aleppo.

The army also targeted terrorists’ gatherings in the village of Khalsa and south of Qarasi village in the southern countryside of Aleppo, destroying vehicles equipped with machine guns, he said.

According to the report, terrorist groups on their social media pages have acknowledged the death of a number of their members, including a leader of Jabhat al-Nusra, Faisal Sharif, nicknamed Abu Omair al-Ansari.

Syria has been entangled in civil war since March 2011. The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group controls parts of the Arab country, mostly in the east.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Since late September, Russia has been carrying out bombings against the ISIL terrorists in Syria, after Russia’s parliament granted President Putin authorization to deploy the country’s air force abroad.

In the past four and a half years, more than 250,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians- and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Around 8 million others have been displaced internally.
