Iran’s President to Start European Tour on Weekend

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani later this week will leave Tehran for Rome, Italy, on a tour of European countries which will also include visits to the Vatican and France, deputy for communications and information at the president’s office announced.

Parviz Esmaeili told the Tasnim News Agency that the president will visit the three countries at the official invitations of heads of these states.

He is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the Leaders Summit of UNESCO General Assembly, Esmaeili added.

“Heading a high-ranking delegation, President Hassan Rouhani will travel to Rome Saturday morning at the invitation of Italy’s prime minister and president,” he noted.

President Rouhani will hold meetings with the Italian president, premier, and other high-ranking officials as well as a number of Italian investors and industrialists during his stay there, Esmaeili stated.

Visiting the Vatican City to meet with the Pope as well as the Vatican prime minister are also on his agenda, Esmaeili added.

On Monday morning, President Rouhani will address the UNESCO General Assembly in Paris at the invitation of its director-general, the Iranian official noted.

Rouhani will meet with the French president on Tuesday before leaving Europe for Tehran, he added.

Bilateral and multilateral meetings, interviews with editors-in-chief of European (Italian and French) media, meetings with elites and thinkers as well as big industry managers and investors will be on Rouhani’s agenda during his 4-day trip, Esmaeili concluded.
