Turkish Election Board Confirms AKP Won Election with 317 Seats

The High Election Board released the certified results of the vote on Thursday, confirming that the Justice and Development Party, founded by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, won 317 seats in the 550-seat parliament.

The main opposition Republican People's Party won 134 seats. The pro-Kurdish party gained 59 seats while nationalists got 40, The Associated Press reported.

Erdogan is expected to ask Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to form a new government next week.

The election was a re-run of an election in June in which the party lost its 13-year majority. Davutoglu failed to form a coalition government after that vote.
