Iran Smashes Over 10 Terrorist Cells Last Month: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Minister of Intelligence Seyed Mahmoud Alavi announced that country's security forces have managed to smash and capture several terrorist groups within the lunar Islamic month of Muharram (October 15- November 12).

Speaking in a gathering of Sunni and Shiite clerics in western Iranian province of Kurdistan on Monday, Alavi hailed the country’s intelligence supremacy, saying the ministry’s intelligence forces busted 10 terrorist groups during Muharram, when Shiite people mourn the martyrdom anniversary of their third Imam, Hussein ibn Ali (AS).

In similar remarks last week, Alavi had pointed to enemies’ schemes to create insecurity in the country in Muharram, saying that the ministry has managed to foil the plots.

He said at the time that 10 terrorist elements have been captured in Iranian provinces of Golestan, Mazandaran, Tehran, and Sistan and Balouchestan.

20 terrorists were also arrested in the Iranian border areas before leaving the country for Iraq and Syria, Alavi added at the time.

He also referred to terrorist activities in Western parts of the country including one in the city of Dezful and a couple of attacks on police stations in the city of Soosangerd, saying that 14 individuals have been arrested in this regard.

“They are terrorists sponsored by reactionary regional states,” Alavi stated on Tuesday.
