Serbian Parliament President to Visit Iran Next Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic will pay an official visit to the Iranian capital of Tehran on Monday.

Gojkovic’s visit to Tehran will come at the invitation of Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani.

She will hold meetings with Larijani as well as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.

A meeting with the head of the Strategic Center of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati is also on Gojkovic’s agenda during her three-day trip to Tehran.

The visit comes more than two years after Larijani made a trip to Serbia’s capital city, Belgrade, on October 2013 at the head of a parliamentary delegation and held talks with his then counterpart Nebojsa Stefanovic and other high ranking Serbian officials.

Back in August 2015, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic made an official visit to Iran, where he and his Iranian counterpart Zarif explored avenues for strengthening the ties between Tehran and the Eastern European country.

At that meeting, the Serbian minister voiced Belgrade’s preparedness to open a new chapter in the ties with the Islamic Republic in the political, economic, and parliamentary fields.
