Iran's Oil Swap Supplies to India May Flow via Russia, Azerbaijan: Indian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Indian Deputy Energy Minister Pandey Bhagwati Prasad said Iran’s crude oil swap supplies to India may flow via ports in Azerbaijan’s Baku and Russia’s Astrakhan.

"As of now we’re considering the possibility for Iran’s crude oil swap supplies to India to flow via Baku and Astrakhan," Bhagwati Prasad said after the meeting of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) energy ministers on Friday, Tass reported.

The meeting of the BRICS energy ministers was held in Moscow on November 20 as part of the ENES 2015 International Forum.

Back in October, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, after talks with Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak, said Tehran is ready for oil and gas swap deals with Russia.

He added Iran, under such deals, would receive gas, crude oil and oil derivatives from Russia in the north and deliver oil products to Russian customers in the south.
