Iran Handball Beats Saudi Arabia at Olympics Qualifier

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Saudi Arabia in Group B of the 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament on Sunday.

In the match held at the Duhail Handball Sports Hall in Doha, the Iranian team defeated Saudi Arabia 30-24.

Iran will play the first team of Group A on Wednesday.

The Iranian team started the campaign with a 39-31 win over Oman.

Irfan Smajlagic’s men then defeated Uzbekistan 33-18 and Japan 31-27 respectively.

Iran lost to host Qatar 32-17.

The event kicked off in Doha, Qatar, on November 14 and will finish on November 23.

The gold medal winner in the competition will qualify for the Olympics.

The handball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will consist of twelve men and women teams each.
