Five Aircraft, Two Floating Docks to Join Iranian Navy’s Fleet

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that four choppers, an airplane, and two floating docks will be soon added to the Navy’s fleet.

Two helicopters and an 800-ton floating dock will join the Navy’s maritime zone in Bushehr, Admiral Sayyari said on Monday.

Two other choppers and a Fokker F27 Friendship, a turboprop airliner, have been overhauled and will join the navy in the coming days, he noted.

The commander also said the inauguration of two training centers and unveiling a 1000-ton floating dock are among other plans of the navy later this week, which marks the Navy Week.

The remarks came as the Iranian Navy on Monday unveiled a number of its latest domestically-made equipment, including naval radars.

Army’s Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi visited the Navy’s headquarters on Monday to unveil the naval communication projects through video conference.

The systems that came into operation include sea-based X-band and S-band radars, stationed at a number of the naval bases across the country.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment, including the air defense systems that use cutting edge technologies.

Tehran has repeatedly stated that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.
