Syrian Forces Retake Control of Aleppo-Raqqa Road

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian army backed by volunteer forces and Russian airstrikes managed to recapture control of the Aleppo-Raqqa road and districts around Kowaires Military Airbase from terrorists.

World

According to Tasnim dispatches, Syrian troops managed to liberate all villages near Kowaires Military Airbase in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo following heavy clashes with militants from the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

The military forces discovered several tunnels near Aleppo-Raqqa road used by the terrorists and seized their mortars and artillery with which they had targeted the military airport for the past years.

In the meantime, Syrian Arab Air Force and the Russian Air Force have intensified their attacks on terrorist hideouts on the outskirts of Latakia in the west of the war-stricken country.

Syria has been entangled in civil war since March 2011. The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group controls parts of the Arab country, mostly in the east.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Since late September, Russia has been carrying out bombings against the ISIL terrorists in Syria, after Russia’s parliament granted President Putin authorization to deploy the country’s air force abroad.

In the past four and a half years, more than 250,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians- and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Around 8 million others have been displaced internally.
