Terrorism Not Confined to Any Particular Region: Iran’s Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday stressed that the phenomenon of terrorism is not limited to a particular region, describing attempts to make it look so as a big mistake in dealing with terrorist groups.

Some countries think that they can use terrorist groups to reach their political goals or that these groups can be confined to a certain geographical area, Rouhani said in a meeting with visiting Luxembourgian Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn here in Tehran.

These are major flaws in dealing with terrorist groups, Rouhani noted, adding, “It has been proven today that terrorism is not in the interest of any country and cannot be restricted to a particular region, because it is moving like a dangerous disease.”

“When terrorism spreads and a country gets insecure, its repercussions, including the return of terrorist forces to their own countries and the issue of refugees, would affect neighbors and other countries,” the Iranian president went on to say.

He further noted that the spread of terrorism in different parts of the world highlights the need for a serious resolve in the fight against the phenomenon.

“It is very significant that everyone believe and feel the big threat of terror and deem it their responsibility to seriously fight against violence, terrorism, and extremism,” Rouhani noted, adding that Tehran is ready to work with all countries and the European Union in a serious campaign against terror.

Asselborn, for his part, referred to the fight against terrorism as the duty of all nations and governments, adding, “Daesh (also known as ISIL) is the real enemy of the global community, and everyone should join hands on the path of fighting terrorism.”
