Iranian, Swiss Diplomats Hold Talks in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Secretary of State at the Swiss Foreign Ministry Yves Rossier met with two ranking Iranian diplomats in Tehran and discussed a range of issues, including regional developments.

In one of the meetings, Mr. Rossier and Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi discussed Tehran-Bern bilateral relations.

The Swiss diplomat voiced his country’s readiness to expand economic ties with Iran following the implementation of a July nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Takht Ravanchi, for his part, said it is the appropriate time to come up with “plans for broad economic activities” between Iran and Europe.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

The promising prospect of trade with Iran has prompted major European countries to explore the market potential in the populous Middle East nation.

In a separate meeting, Rossier and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian discussed the latest developments in the Middle East.

The Swiss official called for the political ways and dialogue to settle the conflicts in the region.

Tthe Iranian deputy minister, meanwhile, stressed the need for “responsible behavior” by the regional countries to that end.

Amir Abdollahian also urged collective efforts for combatting terrorism and extremism.
