TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Gibran Bassil said the Arab country attaches great significance to its cooperation and companionship with Iran.

In a meeting with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s Adviser Ali Akbar Velayati in Beirut on Tuesday, the Lebanese foreign minister expressed the hope that the trip would help expand bilateral relations between the two countries.

On Syria, Bassil argued that it is unacceptable to decide the fate of a nation under pressures from outside the country or from the terrorists.

For his part, Velayati underlined that relations between Iran and Lebanon will have serious impacts on the region.

He also reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s commitment to supporting the Lebanese and Syrian nations, stressing that Tehran will not approve of any plan that would contradict the interests of Syrians.

Velayati has travelled to Beirut to hold talks with Lebanese officials on the issues of mutual interest and the latest regional developments.

He is accompanied by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian in the trip.
