PMD Now Part of History, Iranian Diplomat Says after IAEA Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A ranking Iranian diplomat said the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Wednesday report has practically brought an end to the allegations of possible military dimensions (PMD) of the country’s nuclear activities.
“The discussion of PMD is now part of the history, and we have gone past this difficult stage in working with the agency,” Hamid Baeedinejad, the director general for political and international affairs at Iran’s foreign ministry, said in his Instagram page.
He underlined that the report leaves the IAEA Board of Governors with no choice but to close the case on the so-called PMD in Tehran’s nuclear program.
Making a reference to the final clause of the report, Baeedinejad said it has explicitly confirmed non-diversion of nuclear material in Iran.
That sentence has “in the strongest terms and without any conditions” attested to the peacefulness of Iran’s nuclear program, he added.
The final sentence of the summary of the IAEA’s report says, “The Agency has found no credible indications of the diversion of nuclear material in connection with the possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme.”
The report has also confirmed that the agency has no credible indications of suspicious work in Tehran’s nuclear activities.
As part of a Road-map signed between Iran and the IAEA in July, the agency is required to finish its investigations about Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the Board of Governors by December 15.
The Road-map was signed on the same day that Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement, known as the JCPOA.
The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Iran’s commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
