Iran Favors National Consensus in Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian voiced the country’s support for any agreement among the Lebanese parties that would result from national consensus.

In a meeting with Lebanon's Minister of Finance Ali Hasan Khalil in Tehran on Thursday, the Iranian diplomat hailed the process of national dialogue in the Arab nation, led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, as a “positive step” towards achievement of consensus among different Lebanese political parties.

Amir Abdollahian also called for the expansion of trade ties between Tehran and Beirut.

For his part, the Lebanese minister expressed his country’s preparedness to expand economic relations with Iran.

Khalil also praised Iran’s “constructive” role in the fight against terrorism and contribution to the settlement of the regional crises.
