Scottish Parliamentary Delegation to Visit Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A delegation from the Scottish Parliament is scheduled to pay a visit to Iran on December 19.

Led by the Scottish National Party's foreign affairs spokesman, Alex Salmond, the delegation will stay in Iran for 4 days.

The visiting lawmakers are planned to meet Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the upcoming trip.

Mr. Salmond had unveiled plans for the visit to Iran earlier in October, saying he will lead a delegation of business leaders to explore opportunities for cooperation with Iran following the July 14 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

"This is not just a good opportunity. It's an unambiguously great one. Scotland has much to offer. Benefits can flow both directions," Salmond said of the nuclear deal.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a final deal on Tehran’s nuclear program in July.

Dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the agreement will terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran after coming into force.
