TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Thousands of Members of the Shiite Islamic Movement staged a street protest condemning the brutal killing of the movement's members.

Members of the movement took to the streets on Sunday in Bauchi, Potiskum and Kaduna in Nigeria to protest the extrajudicial killing of their members by the Nigerian Army, AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA) reported.

Scores of lives were suspected to have been lost in Zaria, Kaduna State, during clashes on Saturday and Sunday when Nigerian army attacked members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

Over 20 people have reportedly lost their lives, including the wife and son of Sayyid Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

Nigerian forces on Sunday also arrested top Shiite cleric after carrying out a deadly raid on his private residence in the country’s northern region, rights activists said.

Authorities have accused the Islamic Movement of  having tried to assassinate the Nigerian army chief. The movement has vehemently denied the claim.
