TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian plane has crashed into a concrete barrier at Istanbul’s main airport on Thursday, forcing the evacuation of passengers, but no injuries have been reported, an Iranian source said.

The incident occurred at 8.30 a.m. local time [0630 GMT] as the Mahan Air flight from Tehran landed at the city’s busiest airport, Ataturk International.

Faramarz Sarvi, an official with Mahan Airlines, told the Tasnim News Agency that a problem with the control system was the cause of the accident.

The pilot, passengers, and crew members were not injured, and everyone is safe and sound, he stressed.

The passengers who were supposed to return to Iran on this plane will be moved back using other airlines, he added.

The Airbus A310-300 hit concrete barriers as it taxied to its parking position at the terminal building. The plane’s front wheel was damaged after it failed to stop and passengers were evacuated.

A ground operations bus was also wedged underneath the damaged nose of the plane.
