Parliament Ready to Retaliate US Breaches of JCPOA: Iran’s Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani slammed Washington’s recent moves against Tehran, saying that the Iranian parliament is ready to retaliate such moves that are contrary to the nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and world powers.

Speaking upon his arrival in the southern port city of Bushehr on Saturday, Larijani pointed to a recent law to tighten visa-free travel to the US for those visiting the Islamic Republic, and said that such measures will lead to Washington’s isolation as the European Union member states and some other countries have voiced their opposition to the law.

He further emphasized that the Iranian parliament is prepared to properly deal with the US wrong moves regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) through bills and motions.

According to a bill which was passed in the US House by 407 to 19 on December 8, visitors from the 38 “visa waiver” countries will need to obtain a visa to travel to the US if they have been to Syria, Iraq, Iran or Sudan in the past five years.

On December 18, US lawmakers sent Barack Obama a huge tax and spending package, which also included reforms of the US visa waiver program, and the president quickly signed it into law.

The controversy comes a few weeks before implementation of the JCPOA, the final nuclear deal signed between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) in July.

According to the 8th clause in the preamble and general provisions of the JCPOA, “The E3/EU+3 and Iran commit to implement this JCPOA in good faith and in a constructive atmosphere, based on mutual respect, and to refrain from any action inconsistent with the letter, spirit and intent of this JCPOA that would undermine its successful implementation.”
