Iranians Love Basketball: Dirk Bauermann
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran basketball coach Dirk Bauermann says that the country’s people love basketball.
The former Germany coach was appointed as Iran coach on a three-month contract in July and extended his contract with the Iranian team in November.
“Iranian People love basketball, and it’s the second most popular team sport after volleyball in the country,” the German coach told Derwesten.de
“Iran it’s in the 17th place in the FIBA men’s rankings and Germany is 20th; however I believe that Germany is slightly stronger than Iran,” Bauermann added.
“The Iranian basketball team has a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. I accepted the offer to do that. We have recently become third in the Asian Cup and we will participate in the Olympics qualification,” he added.
“I never felt any resentment in Iran and I have to say the people are very friendly and respectful,” Bauermann said.
