Israel’s Policies Main Cause of Regional Instability: Iran’s Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Tuesday referred to the Zionist regime of Israel’s expansionist policies and blind terrorism as the main factor behind the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

The Zionist regime’s blind assassination of those struggling for the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon and Syria as well as its expansionist policies of building settlements and creating crisis in the region are the main causes of regional instability, Amir Abdollahian said.

He made the remarks in a phone conversation with the United Nations Special Coordinator of the Secretary General for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag.

“Tehran supports the stability and security of Lebanon and the region,” the Iranian deputy foreign minister further said.

Kaag, for her part, urged Iran to use its influence to help establish stability and security in Lebanon and the region given the current sensitive situation in the Middle East.

The UN official also said she would be in Tehran soon to complete her consultations on the security of the region, particularly that of Lebanon.

Amir Abdollahian had earlier voiced the country’s support for any agreement among the Lebanese parties that would result from national consensus.

In a meeting with Lebanon’s Minister of Finance Ali Hasan Khalil in Tehran in December, the Iranian diplomat hailed the process of national dialogue in the Arab nation, led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, as a “positive step” toward achievement of consensus among different Lebanese political parties.
