Israel Seeking Tension between Tehran, Riyadh: Iranian General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A top military aide to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned against the Israeli attempts to escalate tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

“We hope that Muslims in regional countries would remain vigilant, because the Zionist regime seeks tension between the Al Saud and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Monday.

The senior official noted that Saudi Arabia’s policies are influenced by the Israeli regime, which seeks to incite insecurity, chaos and turmoil in the region.

He stressed that insecurity in the region will serve the interests of the Zionist regime of Israel.

Saudi Arabia executed prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr on January 2.

The execution drew widespread international condemnation from the religious and political figures.

The Riyadh government decided to sever diplomatic ties with Iran afterwards, when a group of furious protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran in response to the execution of the popular cleric.
