Syrian President, Iran’s Minister Slam Moves to Hinder Syria Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in a Tuesday meeting in Damascus condemned moves by certain sides aimed at impeding the ongoing talks to resolve the crisis in war-torn Syria.

They stressed that certain countries and international and regional sides are trying to hinder the efforts aimed at fighting terrorism and finding a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.

Rahmani Fazli and Assad noted that those countries are still supporting terrorists and provide the necessary cover for them to create crisis in the region.

Assad praised Tehran’s stances in support for the Syrian campaign against terror, and stressed that such friendly states as Iran and Russia have played a significant role in reinforcing Syria’s resistance in the past five years and its victories in decisive wars against Takfiri terrorism.

“The current war against Syria has caused the friendly ties between the two countries (Iran and Syria) to be reinforced more than ever,” the Syrian president added.

Rahmani Fazli, for his part, underscored the resolve of Iran’s leadership, government, and nation for standing beside Syria.

Iran believes the Syrian nation has been engaged in a tough global war with terrorists, extremists, and the dark ideology of Takfirism, the Iranian minister noted, adding that the threat of terrorism and extremism has gone beyond the Syrian and regional borders.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including Daesh (ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to the United Nations, more than 250,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
