TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari on Tuesday strongly denounced Tuesday’s terrorist attack in the Turkish city of Istanbul that claimed at least 10 lives and wounded several others.

Jaberi Ansari condemned the terrorist blast, extended condolences to and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims as well as the nation and government of the brotherly and friendly country of Turkey.

“This terrorist operation once again proved the urgency of an integrated fight by regional countries and the entire world against terrorism and extremism,” the Iranian spokesman stressed.

He went on to say that such attacks underscore the necessity for immediate resolution of ongoing regional crises based on political solutions and rejection of all forms of terrorism.

In such cases, the Islamic Republic of Iran stands beside the Turkish nation and government, Jaberi Ansari added.

The explosion in a historic district of Istanbul popular with tourists killed 10 people and injured 15 others Tuesday morning.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the blast in the Sultanahmet district was carried out by a suicide bomber of Syrian origin and foreigners were among the dead.
