Syrian Forces Advance in Terrorist-Held Areas near Latakia

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops backed by volunteer forces managed to clear various districts of the war-stricken country from foreign-backed terrorists and make major advances in the suburbs of Latakia, military sources said on Friday.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the Syrian forces are continuing their advances in the northern suburbs of Latakia after retaking the strategic city of Salma in the Latakia Governorate.

A Syrian military source said that despite the presence of foreign Takfiri terrorists in Syria and the direct support provided by Turkish intelligence service for them, the terrorists’ morale have been destroyed following the rapid advance of the Syrian army in the northern suburbs of Latakia.

Army’s jet fighters also bombarded terrorist’s positions on the eastern outskirts of Daraa in southwestern Syria, destroying Takfiris’ strongholds and training centers in the area.

In another development, the Syrian army forces managed to repel a massive attack by terrorist groups in Khan Tuman, a village in the southern outskirts of Aleppo.

Heavy clashes are underway between the Syrian army and terrorists in the district.

Syria has been entangled in civil war since March 2011. The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group controls parts of the Arab country, mostly in the east.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Since late September, Russia has been carrying out bombings against the ISIL terrorists in Syria, after Russia’s parliament granted President Putin authorization to deploy the country’s air force abroad.

In the past four and a half years, more than 250,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians- and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Around 8 million others have been displaced internally.
