President Rouhani Hails Removal of ‘Cruel’ Sanctions against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani offered his congratulations on the announcement of “the implementation day” of the July nuclear agreement with six world powers, saying that “cruel” sanctions and resolutions against the Islamic Republic has been completely removed.

In a statement issued early on Sunday after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) successfully ended nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna, President Rouhani congratulated the Iranian nation and said, “Today, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) yielded results.”

“Today, the official announcement of the JCPOA implementation has 'de-securitized' Iran’s nuclear case,” he said, adding, “Cruel resolutions against the Iranian nation has been terminated… Iran’s nuclear rights were established and the country’s economy has been reconnected to the global economy.”

“Implementation of the JCPOA does not harm any country. Iran’s friends are happy and its rivals should not be worried. We are not a threat against any government or nation,” President Rouhani noted.

“While being fully ready to safeguard Iran’s sovereignty, we are conveying the messenge of peace, stability and security in the region and across the world,” he said.

The remarks came after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on late Saturday announced in a joint statement that the implementation of a nuclear deal finalized by Tehran and world powers back in July 2015 has officially been started.

The joint statement read out by the two top diplomats announced the implementation of the nuclear deal – known as the JCPOA – which terminates all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions.

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano also said on the same day that Iran had taken the “necessary preparatory steps to start the implementation of” the JCPOA.
