Dirk Bauermann Believes Iran Has A Chance to Reach Olympics
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national basketball team's coach Dirk Bauermann believes that his team can book a place in next year's Olympics in Rio.
Iran failed to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games after finishing third at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship.
Runner-up the Philippines, Iran and Japan will have to try and reach Rio via one of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs).
“We have two goals ahead of us. First, we are going to advance to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games since I believe that we still have a chance to qualify for the event. This is our short-term goal; however this is not an easy job,” the German coach said.
“Also, we are going to participate at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This is our long-term goal. We want to be well-prepared for the tournament. We want the Iranian people are proud of their team,” Bauermann said.
