Iran to Meet JCPOA Commitments If Other Side Does So: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that Tehran will meet its obligations under a final nuclear agreement with six world powers, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), provided that the other sides do the same thing.

In a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday, President Rouhani pointed to the recent announcement of “implementation day” of the JCPOA, and stressed the need for all-out efforts to carry out the deal properly.

“Providing that the other party fulfill all its commitments, the Islamic Republic of Iran will do the same,” he noted.

The president further emphasized that the implementation of the JCPOA leads to the increase of cooperation between the two sides, adding that closer economic cooperation will also “strengthen the foundations of the deal”.

The British premier, for his part, emphasized that all parties to the JCPOA should remain committed to their obligations and London is resolved to do so.

Cameron further said his country is resolved to share its financial and banking experiences with the Islamic Republic.

He also emphasized the need for Tehran and London to boost their ties and consultations on regional issues.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Cameron said the visa section of the British embassy in Tehran will start its work in the near future.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Mogherini announced in a joint statement that the implementation of the nuclear deal finalized between Tehran and world powers back in July 2015 has officially been started.

The announcement was made after the IAEA confirmed Iran’s commitment to the JCPOA.
