Grounds Set for Development of Iran’s Nuclear Industry

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said in a message to the Iranian nation that the grounds are now prepared more than ever for the development of the country’s nuclear energy industry.

“(Iran’s) activities in the nuclear industry in different fields, including uranium enrichment, Research and Development, and modernization of Arak heavy-water research reactor will continue,” Salehi said in his message.

His Wednesday message was released on the occasion of the recent implementation of the JCPOA, the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, which terminated all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions.

Iran will also start the construction of two new nuclear power plants on the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution (February 11), Salehi announced, adding that the construction of Iran’s largest specialized nuclear hospital is also on AEOI’s agenda.

Salehi further announced that Iran is seriously pursuing the necessary measures to turn the country into a hub of nuclear medicine production in the Middle East.

The Iranian nuclear chief had earlier announced on Tuesday that China is going to construct a couple of nuclear power plants in southeastern Iran, and the issue will be discussed in an upcoming visit by the Chinese president to Tehran.

The contract has already been signed for the construction of two nuclear power plants in cooperation with China, Salehi told reporters here in Tehran.

This is one of the issues that will be discussed during the upcoming visit of Xi Jinping, the Chinese President, to Tehran, slated for Saturday, January 23, he added.

The remarks came a couple of days after Foreign Minister Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini announced in a joint statement on Saturday that the implementation of the nuclear deal finalized by Tehran and world powers back in July 2015 has officially been started.
