Leader’s Adviser Due in Russia Next Week: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Akbar Velayati, an international adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution, will reportedly pay a visit to Russia next Monday.

RIA Novosti on Monday quoted the Iranian Embassy in Moscow as saying that Velayati will visit Russia on February 1-4 to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.

“The sides are expected to exchange opinions and discuss the situation in the region, as well as bilateral relations,” the embassy’s press service told the Russian news agency.

The visit will come near a year after Velayati made a trip to Moscow in late January 2015 as the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s special representative.

During the trip, he held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and passed on a message from the Iranian chief executive.

Velayati and Putin in that meeting agreed on greater efforts to improve the status of Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The discussions also included subjects such as Tehran-Moscow bilateral relations, regional developments and international issues.
