Shahmiri, 50, had already been invited to whistle at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup in Japan.
The volleyball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be played between August 6 and 21.
24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams, total 386 athletes, will participate in the tournament.
