Iranian Official Decries US Behavior after JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani deplored the US for its double-standard conduct in the course of implementing a comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

“Despite the Islamic Republic’s goodwill in the implementation of the JCPOA and the effective efforts made by some European countries to accelerate its coming into force, the United States of America’s double-standard behavior, which is fraught with obscurities, is still source of serious concern,” Shamkhani said at a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Tehran on Wednesday.

He also noted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal, has provided an opportunity for constructive interaction between Iran and European countries, including Germany, in a way that would fulfill both sides’ common interests and at the same time not cross the political, cultural and economic red lines.

The top German diplomat, for his part, referred to the historical ties between Tehran and Berlin as a good impetus for the expansion of bilateral ties in the post-JCPOA era.

Steinmeier also hailed Iran’s outstanding position in the region, and called for closer consultations with Tehran for beating terrorism in the Middle East.

Steinmeier arrived in Tehran on Tuesday in his second trip to Iran in only three months.

His visit follows the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal on January 16.
