Saudi Troops in Syria to Be Treated Like Terrorists: Syria MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Should Saudi Arabia dare to put boots on the ground in Syria, the intruders will be treated like terrorists and the Syrian military forces will decimate them, a Syrian lawmaker told Tasnim.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Zuhair al-Tarraf said speculations about Saudi Arabia’s decision to deploy ground forces to Syria are clearly aimed at propping up the armed groups which have suffered repeated losses in confrontation with the Syrian Army and its allies.

He explained that Saudi Arabia’s decision to interfere in Syria’s developments is not something new, since its mercenaries have been already present in Syria, fighting against the Damascus government.

“The armed people that are now fighting against the Syrian Army are indeed Saudi mercenaries,” Tarraf added.

He underlined that if Saudi military forces enter the Syrian territories, they will be treated like terrorist groups and the Syrian army will definitely beat them.

Saudi Arabia on Thursday voiced readiness to participate in any ground operations in Syria if the US-led coalition purportedly targeting terrorists decides to start such operations.

Saudi Arabia is a member of the so-called US-led coalition that has been conducting air raids against what are claimed to be the Daesh terrorists inside Syria without any authorization from the Syrian government or a UN mandate since September 2014.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said during an interview in March 2015 that the US-led military campaign does not aim to “do away” with the terror group.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including Daesh (ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to the United Nations, more than 250,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
