Iran Downs China at AFC Futsal Championship


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran beat China 7-0 in the AFC Futsal Championship group stage at the Universal Stadium on Friday.

The Iranian team, who opened the campaign with a 6-0 victory over Jordan, closed in on a place in the competition’s quarter-final with one game in hand.

Mohammad Keshavarz netted a second-half brace as Iran closed in on a place in the AFC Futsal Championship quarter-finals after they thrashed China 7-0 at the Universal Stadium on Friday.

First-half goals from Mohammad Taheri, Ashgar Hassanzadeh and Hamid Ahmadi helped Iran to a 3-0 lead at the break in front of some boisterous support before they turned on the style in the second twenty minutes.

Keshavarz then notched his double before further goals from Hossein Tayebi and Ghodrat Bahadori rounded out what was a convincing win for the 10-time champions.

Iran will play Iraq on Sunday.

The 2016 AFC Futsal Championship is the 14th edition of the AFC Futsal Championship and is underway in Uzbekistan from February 10 to 21.

A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament.

The tournament acts as the AFC qualifiers for the World Cup. The top five teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia as the AFC representatives.
