Hamas Says Egypt Briefly Opens Border Crossing

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said Egypt has opened its border with the territory for the first time this year.

World

Hamas said Saturday that the Rafah crossing is open for two days. A few hundred people are expected to be able to pass through during that time, AP reported.

Egypt only opens the border intermittently. Humanitarian aid and some goods enter Gaza from the Israel side.

Since the military coup that ousted Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, in 2013, Cairo has adopted restrictive measures against over 1.8 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Rafah border crossing is Gazans’ only way of access to the outside world as the Tel Aviv regime has blockaded the highly populated area for over 8 years.

Under the Israeli and Egyptian restrictive regulations, Palestinians are deprived of their basic right to import and export goods in the besieged area.
