Lebanese Figure Highlights Significance of Hezbollah’s Presence in Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Lebanon’s Liberal Democrats Party (LDP) praised Hezbollah’s military presence in Syria, saying that if it had not been for the Hezbollah fighters, Daesh and other terrorist groups would have come to Lebanon.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Tracy Chamoun denounced recent allegations made against the Lebanese Resistance Movement, Hezbollah, and said the movement’s presence in Syria was a very significant and a necessary move.

“If the measure had not been taken by Hezbollah ad Iran to defend the Syrian government and people, Daesh (also known as ISIL) and other Takfiri groups would have been in Lebanon…,” she noted.

The Arab monarchies of the Persian Gulf on Wednesday declared Hezbollah movement, which has been fighting terrorist groups in Syria and the Israeli occupation, a “terrorist group.”

The six-nation (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council officially added Hezbollah and all groups affiliated to its so-called list of “terrorist” organizations.

The development came as the Syrian army troops backed by Hezbollah fighters have recently made significant gains against the foreign-backed terrorist groups in the Arab country, such as the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group al-Nusra Front and Daesh.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

The US and its regional allies have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria for nearly five years.
