In a meeting held in Jakarta on the sidelines of an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Zarif and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu exchanged views about issues ranging from bilateral ties to the latest developments in the Middle East.
In a separate meeting with his Tajik counterpart Sirodjidin Aslov, Zarif explored avenues for closer cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe in various spheres.
Zarif arrived in Jakarta on Sunday morning to participate in the OIC extraordinary meeting on the issue of Palestine and the holy Quds.
Indonesia is the first destination of Zarif’s tour of six countries, which will later take him to three other ASEAN and two Oceanian countries.
Iran’s Ambassador to Jakarta Valiollah Mohammadi told Tasnim on Saturday that Zarif would take part in the OIC Summit on Monday on behalf of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Zarif’s 11-day tour of Southeast Asia and Oceania is scheduled to go on with official visits to Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia.
