Lebanese Groups Laud Iran’s Supports for Anti-Israeli Resistance Front

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Several Lebanese groups held a ceremony in the capital, Beirut, to praise Iran’s continued support for the anti-Israeli resistance front and the Lebanese and Palestinian nations.

The Monday ceremony was attended by a number of top Lebanese religious and political figures, including the Chairman of the International Union of Resistance Clerics Sheikh Maher Hammoud and Chairman of Lebanon’s Muslim Scholars Gathering Sheikh Hassan Abdullah.

Addressing the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah said at a time when all countries had been against Iran, the country did not stop its supports for Palestine’s resistance.

Sheikh Maher Hammoud, for his part, emphasized that those who claim to support Sunni Muslims, should defend them by action not by “empty slogans”.

Earlier and in a Sunday address to the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the issue of Palestine and the holy Quds, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reaffirmed the country’s commitment to backing Palestine in spite of the fact that sanctions have been the price it pays for that support.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes on honoring commitments regarding Palestine,” he said in the meeting.

“Although (Iran) knows the pressures that have been imposed on it in recent decades have been the result of our support for the cause of Palestine, it will keep up that policy,” Zarif underlined.

The top Iranian diplomat also described the issue of Palestine as the centerpiece of the OIC, calling for serious attention to the organization’s “raison d'être” without being distracted by any other issue.

Zarif further stressed the need for Muslim unity and practical action to end the occupation of Palestine in an organized manner.
