Iran, Brunei Eye Enhanced Economic Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in meetings with a number of Bruneian ministers discussed ways to expand bilateral relations in a range of fields.

During his stay in Brunei as part of a tour of Southeast Asia and Oceania, the top Iranian diplomat held meetings with a number of Brunei’s ministers, including Minister of Energy and Industry Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar and Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Ali bin Haji Apong.

The talks revolved around various issues, particularly ways to boost economic ties between Tehran and Bandar Seri Begawan.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, building oil refineries, banking, pharmaceutical industry, better consular services and tourism.

Brunei is a tiny nation on the island of Borneo, in 2 distinct sections surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea.

Before arriving in Brunei, Zarif also paid official visits to Indonesia and Singapore.

He is slated to travel to Thailand, Australia and New Zealand afterwards as part of an 11-day tour.
