Iran Eyes Closer Ties with Uganda

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated his Ugandan counterpart on a recent election win, hoping for stronger relations between the two countries in the future.

Politics

In a message to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday, President Rouhani congratulated the longtime president of Uganda for his recent election victory.

The Iranian president also expressed the hope for the expansion of Tehran-Kampala relations in the whole fields of mutual interest, given the record of their friendly and age-old relations and the ample opportunities for cooperation.

71-year-old Museveni won the presidential election in February with more than 60 percent of the vote.

The vote gives Museveni, who has been in office since 1986, another five-year term, his last under current Ugandan law.
