10 Iranian Boxers Eye Rio Olympics Berths

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – 10 Iranian boxers will leave Wednesday for China to take part in the qualifiers in the hopes of making it to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifying tournament will be held in Qian' An, China from March 25 to April 2.

In the men’s competition, only the top three boxers in each weight category will advance to the Olympics with the third spot decided via a box-off between the two bronze-medallists.

Squad: Omid Ahmadi Safa (49kg), Pouria Navi (52kg), Armin Amjadian (56kg), Dana Esmaeilzadeh (60kg), Esmaeil Armashi (64kg), Sajjad Kazemzadeh (69kg), Sajjad Mehrabi (75kg), Majid Haj Abbasi (81kg), Salar Gholami (91kg), Majid Sepahvand (+91kg)

In all, 30 men’s slots and six women’s slots will be filled at these qualifiers.
