Iran, Pakistan Stress Boosting Security Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and his Pakistani counterpart underlined the need for enhancement of security cooperation between the two countries.

In a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday, Rahmani Fazli and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan discussed practical ways to develop bilateral cooperation in security fields.

The two sides stressed the necessity for boosting collaborations to elevate border security, fight against drug trafficking and human trafficking and decisively combat terrorists.

The meeting took place during a visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his accompanying delegation to Islamabad.

During the two-day visit, the two countries agreed to adopt necessary strategies and make use of their capacities to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $5 billion.

They also signed five agreements with a view to enhance cooperation in diverse fields and improve bilateral trade ties.

The Iranian president’s landmark visit to Pakistan, which was his first since becoming president, came after the enforcement of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a comprehensive nuclear deal Tehran and world powers (Russia, China, the US, Britain,  France and Germany) reached in July 2015 and implemented on January 16.

The agreement terminated all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions when it took effect.
