Prince Charles Likely to Visit Iran This Year: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) –Britain’s Prince Charles is expected to visit Iran this fall following the implementation of a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, media reports said.

The British Foreign Office and Clarence House are in talks with the authorities in Tehran about arranging a tour for Prince Charles this fall, a royal source told The Sunday Times.

The visit will be the first official royal trip to the country for more than 40 years.

The Prince of Wales visited the Iranian city of Bam in October 2004 as president of the British Red Cross charity after an earthquake devastated the area.

The source added that the member of the British royal family hopes to meet President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian business leaders and visit ancient cities such as Isfahan and Shiraz during his journey to the Islamic Republic.

The visit will come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a nuclear deal on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16.

The deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
