Iranian Trio Earn Olympic Spots in Table Tennis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Three Iranian table tennis players grabbed 2016 Olympic Games spots.

On Saturday, Noshad Alamian defeated Hong Kong’s Jiang Tiani 4-1 (8-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6, 11-4) at the Asia Olympic qualifying.

Neda Shahsavari and Nima Alamian – both from Iran- had already booked their spots in the event on Thursday.

In the final of the Women’s Singles event, Shahsavari beat Uzbekistan’s Olga Kim (7-11, 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 12-10, 11-5, 12-10).

Nima Alamian also defeated his brother Noshad (11-7, 8-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5) to qualify for the Olympics.

Athletes from 23 countries and territories are participating in the Olympic qualifying tournament, which commenced on April 13 and will run through April 17 in Hong Kong.
