US Embassy in Pakistan Warns of Potential Attack on Islamabad Hotel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The US Embassy in Pakistan issued a warning about a potential threat against the Marriott hotel in Islamabad, calling on US citizens to avoid the area.

Earlier in April, the US Department of State advised tourists and businessmen against traveling to Pakistan, citing the threat of militants who may be targeting US citizens amid terrorist violence in the country.

“The embassy is aware of a general but uncorroborated threat against the Marriott hotel in Islamabad. US citizens are advised to avoid the area for the next several days to allow time to assess the situation,” the statement posted on the embassy’s website on Saturday said, Sputnik News reported.

The latest attack by extremists last month targeted Christian families who were celebrating Easter at a public park in the city of Lahore. Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, a breakaway faction of the Taliban militant group in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the bombing that killed more over 70 people.
