Hezbollah Raps Israeli Cabinet Session in Golan Heights

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance Movement condemned the Israeli regime’s provocative move to hold a cabinet session in the occupied Golan Heights.

In a statement on Monday, Hezbollah also slammed the Israeli prime minister’s comments during the cabinet session.

Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said the “time has come for the international community to finally recognize that the Golan Heights will remain under Israel’s sovereignty permanently.”

In its statement, Hezbollah said the decision to hold such a session in the Syrian territory signifies the Zionists’ constant attempts to interfere in Syria’s affairs, disintegrate the Arab country and annex the occupied Golan Heights.

It further decried the Arab League’s muted response to the violation of an Arab country’s territorial integrity.

In the 1967 Six Day War, Israel seized parts of the Golan Heights, a strategic area in the extreme southwest of Syria, which also borders Lebanon, Jordan and northeastern Palestine.

Syria unsuccessfully attempted to retake it during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, before Israel annexed the region in 1981 by extending its laws over the territory and its occupants.

The international community considers the Golan Heights to be occupied territory, and Israeli settlement-building there to be illegal.

Syria wants the return of the territory, which has been monitored by UN peacekeeping forces for decades.
