DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops backed by popular forces managed to repel attacks by terrorist groups on the outskirts of the capital and the northern city of Aleppo and target their positions, killing dozens of the insurgents.

According to Tasnim dispatches, fierce clashes erupted between Syrian forces and militants in Eastern Ghouta, on the outskirts of Damascus, as well as in the suburbs of Aleppo after the terrorists launched mortar attacks.

A military source told the Tasnim News Agency that Syrian forces managed to counter an attack by terrorist elements in Jubar neighborhood of Damascus, killing a number of the militants.

Several residential areas in Damascus and Aleppo were also shelled by terrorist groups.

In another development, the Syrian Air Force fighter jets targeted the vehicles of the al-Nusra Front, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

The Syrian conflict has killed at least 260,000 people, according to the UN, and more than half of Syria’s pre-war population of 22.4 million has been internally displaced or fled abroad.
