Bahraini Uprising to Continue until All Demands Are Met: Opposition Figure

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A leader of Bahrain’s February 14 movement condemned the Al Khalifa regime for its systematic violations of human rights and made assurances that the popular uprising in the Persian Gulf country will continue until all demands of the Bahraini people are fulfilled.

“Public demands and the uprising of the Bahraini nation against the dictatorial (Manama) regime will continue until all demands are met,” Rashed al-Rashed told the Tasnim News Agency.

The Al Khalifa regime is trying to employ any “lever of pressure” against the people, he said, adding that the regime has asked the armies of the US, Britain, France, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia to help it in its ongoing crackdown on the people.

The prominent opposition figure also emphasized that Manama has leveled numerous allegations against the popular uprising, including attributing it to foreign countries, but the regime has never succeeded in silencing dissenting voices and ending the uprising.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Troops from Saudi Arabia have been also deployed to Bahrain to assist in its suppression of the peaceful protests.
